Is The Lottery Morally Wrong

In the short story," The Lottery", it shows a fictional tradition where they, at the end, stone a member of a family. Even though this is injuring and killing a citizen or a whole family, they still continue it. It's tradition. Why would you stop? I do believe that if something is morally wrong, it should be stopped. These morally wrong traditions might disagree with a person's religious or self values. People develop new opinions, and it can harm a community and it's people. There are all kinds of people in this world, different religions, enthicities, values, etc. Many religions look down on violence. The followers of this religion would want to keep a peaceful life, void of fighting and pain. For example, many muslims that follow of the Quan believe violence isn't solution, a follower of the Islamic religion, would definetly not want to participate in violent act of stoning someone. As people grow, they form new ideas and opinions of the world. People might see something as totally okay at that moment in their life, but as poeple grow and mature, they learn about injustices and hardships, that are caused by these traditions. As people grow they start questioning their traditions, they find the flaws. In, "The Lottery", two of the characters have a conversation about stopping the tradition at hand. They talk about the other towns that have stopped this lottery because it was wrong. The old man doesn't believe it should be stopped, he has been raised in this society to always follow this tradition, he has been lucky enough to never face the tragedies that are result of the lottery.
