It all started with religion, where it was established that women were not to exercise authority over men, they were to be obey men and be submissive. Their expectation was to get married, have children, cook, clean the house and care for the children. The children in the family had different expectations based on their gender. Girls were expected to mirror their mother, learn from them how to properly care for the family while always obeying the father. While families hoped their boys could obtain an education in order to have a good job. The men in the family was the provider and worker for the family. With time women who were from wealthy families slowly were able to go attend private schools, and eventually have access to higher education. Even when women were finally allowed to become teachers, men only accepted this idea because their wages would be lower than a men and because they could move the men into better positions. Slowly moving into the ability of teaching them some skills at home and later attending an academy where they could learn domestic skills and literacy.
