Terrorism And Weapons Of Mass Destruction

When we think of terrorists we think of the middle east, and how they attack the United States and other countries. This paper will briefly discuss what is terrorism and the weapons of mass destruction they use, and how it can affect western areas over a period of time. Terrorism has been around for centuries, terrorism is a group of people trying to terrorize a population or overthrow a regime either through the military or communities. The english term terrorism comes from the term regime de la terreur, was first used by philosopher Edmund Burke during the French Revolution and the Jacobin Reign of Terror (Dammer and Albanese, 2014).

Terrorist groups are known for their weapons of mass destruction. Some weapons that terrorists groups are known for: nuclear, radiological, chemical, and biological weapons. One weapon they are known to use is the radiological dispersal device. The radiological dispersal device “ dirty bombs” is an device that can cause purposeful dissemination of radioactive material without a nuclear detonation. Radiological Dispersal Device is made with a combination of conventional explosives, such as dynamite, and radioactive material. The device is designed to specifically release radioactive material by disseminating to cause destruction, damage, or injury by means of radiation produce by decay of certain material.
A dirty bomb is not a nuclear weapon or nuclear bomb. A nuclear weapon or bomb creates an explosion that is more powerful than a dirty bomb. A nuclear bomb can cause major damage to countries/nations. A nuclear bomb can spread hundreds of miles wiping out anything in the way. Nuclear bombs can kill thousands of people and destroy property. Dirty bombs are not considered weapons of mass destruction, but weapons of mass
