How often do you use your phone or see someone else using it? Consequently, the increase in technological use during the day has been proven that the amount of time people spend on social media sites, has negatively affected people's real world friendships. In the articles, “Is technology making us less social,” by the Keith Hampton, and Larry Rosen, “Is technology killing our friendships,” by Lauren Tarshis, and“How smartphones could be ruining your relationships,” by Barrie Davenport, they examine the growing problem of social media and smartphone overuse. Have you ever seen two friends sitting next to each other but they aren’t talking to each other they are texting each other or other people on their smartphones? Today, people not communicating face to face has increased along with technological increase. Barrie Davenport says, “Even with the most devoted couples, it seems that once-common conversations in bed have been replaced with endless scrolling through social media apps or funny image-based sites.” This is just one example of how face to face communication even with the most tight knit bonds can be blocked by the influence of technology. This can cause problems in relationships because the two people cannot communicate as freely and efficiently. Lauren Tarshis says, “Often, even when kids are together, they are interacting with their phones rather than each other.” Just like the question I asked before, this shows the more comfort people have with texting rather than talking face to face. When people are together they should be talking together, not texting each other or posting pictures on social media sites.
