Technology continues to advance at a great pace even after numerous discoveries and innovative software. Technology has advance so much that certain companies have begun to develop virtual reality to the public. Virtual reality is when a person can experience reality that was created by a computer. This technology allows humans to experience new ideas and worlds and almost everything can be found on the internet. However, there are sacrifices that comes with better technology. There are many ways to deal with problems in life but choosing to escape into social networks, or video games will not fix the problem at hand. Turkle describes that teenagers will use technology to create a safe place for themselves, as Turkle describes what one teenager girl has done, “Trish, a timid and anxious thirteen-year-old, has been harshly beaten by her alcoholic father: She creates an abusive gamily on The Sims Online, but in the game her character, also thirteen, is physically and emotionally strong. In simulation, she plays and replays the experience of fighting off her aggressor” (Turkle 437). Technology allows the creation of a world where the user has power over most situations, allowing its users to have plenty of time to adapt to a situation. However, this power will not translate to real life where some situations call for an immediate reaction. In the article “How Social Media is Lying to You” by Liv Raimonde, Raimonde explains how social media is impacting how some people deal with reality as she said, “Social media has become a place for people of all ages to escape reality and create their own perfect world” (Raimonde). Everyone wants to live in a perfect world but such place is unrealistic.
