Too Much Technology

Have you ever tried to carry on a conversation with somebody but they are too busy texting or playing on their phone or device in hand? Have you ever been ignored by a friend to “hang out” because they were too busy playing a video game? Technology is growing at a faster rate than it ever has before with new devices such as smartphones, laptops, televisions, etc. The real question though is; are we depending on it too much? Scientists and even our everyday, ordinary person is coming up with new technology and inventions. Is technology a poison and a hazard to the youth of our society; or is it the bridge to a new way of life that can make things such as research, teaching, learning, etc., easier than it ever has been before? It makes life hard to live without it, yet with it we can depend on it too much. Is there a way that we can balance the amount of technology in our lives so that we do not have to depend on it, but it is still in our lives. “Any technological advance can be dangerous. Fire was dangerous from the start, and so (even more so) was speech - and both are still dangerous to this day - but human beings would not be human without them.” (I. Asimov). Like Asimov states in his quote above, technology can be a danger to people but we would not be the people we are today without it. The technological advances in the medical field have taken us to new places that we never thought we could be. Even with all of these advances in technology the question still remains… Is technology a poison and a hazard to the youth of our society; or is it the bridge to a new way of life that can make things such as research, teaching, learning, etc., easier than it ever has been before? There is not one specific answer that can answer that question to its’ full, but only many answers that can be argued hand in hand against each other. The only way that you will ever know the answer is to answer the question yourself. So what do you think the answer
