I disagree with the people who say that Swift was a misanthrope. In my personal opinion I don’t think that any is a misanthrope. I like to think of it as you prefer being alone or that you dislike people because they aren't exactly like you. It states in Chapter five that Gulliver prevents an invasion. If he was a misanthrope why did he protect the people he doesn't owe them anything. He could have ruined the Lilliputs homes however, he didn’t. Although I disagree, Gulliver didn’t search at all to see if his crew were still alive after the shipwreck in his first adventure. The only way to know for certain would be to ask Mr. Swift himself.
