It has been more than 400 years since Shakespeare’s death, yet students today are still reading his works. Why aren’t students reading something that wasn’t even written in modern English? One reason why we still read Shakespeare is because the issues that he brings up are still relevant in our society today. For example, in Romeo and Juliet, the theme of love and lust is brought up. People nowadays are still suckers for a love/tragedy story and Romeo and Juliet is an extremely well written and gut-wrenching one.
