Life is recognized by what we do. People, animals, plants and insects encompass properties such as order, regulation, growth and development, processing energy, responding to the environment, reproduction, and evolution. All living organisms exist with nonliving factors, as such, their interactions form an ecosystem. The two main processes of an ecosystem are the recycling of chemical nutrients and the flow of energy.
Cells are a component of all living organisms and essentially are life’s basic unit of structure and function. Every cell is enclosed by a membrane which regulates materials passing between the cell and its surroundings. In addition, every cell uses DNA to determine its genetic information, which is the inheritance of genes from parent to offspring. Gregor Mendel discovered the two laws of inheritance to be

This process is imperative to humans and animals as our food depends upon it. Plants and animals rely on it as a source of energy; furthermore, humans use products of photosynthesis such as clothing, lumber, etc. Carbon dioxide and water are the chemical ingredients of photosynthesis, as such; oxygen gas is a by-product of it. Cellular respiration is a chemical process that gathers energy stored in sugars and other organic molecules. This process, although similar, does differ from cellular respiration through breathing. Breathing causes cells to exchange two gases such as taking in oxygen and eliminating it as carbon dioxide. A series of reactions take place in cellular respiration broken down into three stages known as glycolysis, citric acid cycle, and electron transport. In fact, more than two dozen reactions are involved in this metabolic process.
