Is Romeo Or Juliet An Ideal Boyfriend?

Decent Essays
Some people believe that Romeo or Juliet is the ideal boyfriend or girlfriend. However, Romeo would not be an ideal boyfriend. One reason why is that he is too impulsive. Romeo loves Rosaline in the beginning of the play, but then sees Juliet and gets married to her not long after. If he could do this, then he really was not in love with Rosaline. This means that he might not love Juliet and only lusts for her. This would mean that he could easily find another girl that he loves. He also decides to kill himself right after he is told that Juliet died, even though she did not. If Romeo heard a rumor about Juliet, even if it is false, he might have an overreaction like the one he did have when he heard that Juliet was dead. Another reason why

Can True Love Come From True Beauty? In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare reveals Lady Capulet’s shallowness and trivial concern for Juliet’s wishes through the use of metaphor and imagery. Lady Capulet uses Paris’s outer beauty as a way to persuade Juliet to marry him because she is determined to induce Juliet to marry Paris any way she can. She suggests Juliet “read [over] the volume of...Paris’s face” (I.iii.87) in order to decide whether she should marry him, as if Paris’s perfect facial features are important enough for Juliet to jump into a marriage with someone she hardly knows.…

Firstly, the harmless nature of Benvolio’s behavior, intended to help and protect those around him, become the catalysts of several undesired results. The simple actions of cheering up a sulking friend caused the entire disaster that is the relationship between Romeo and Juliet. Romeo comes home sulking about Rosaline, and Benvolio insists on going to the Capulet’s party to “examine other beauties” (I,i,1,224) and compare them to Rosaline. Although going to the party achieved the goal of making Romeo forget about Rosaline, it brought about a new love: Juliet. To illustrate this in a more modern fashion, it can be said that Benvolio is in the position of the friend with no love or relationship experience, but is always the one who is turned…

Society may think that they know what is best for you or judge you. It is better to follow your heart rather than society’s desires. In many ways I think I would not like to have Romeo as a boyfriend, mostly because he is an obsessive romantic who is in love with the idea of being in love. For example, Romeo maintains that he is love-sick and heartbroken following Rosaline’s rejection. One minute he believes that “love is a smoke made with a fume of sighs” yet the next minute he is proclaiming undying love for Juliet. In my opinion it would be difficult to believe anything he says because he is so fickle. Secondly he’s very superficial – he loves Juliet not for who she is but for how she looks, which is clear in his dramatic pronouncement “Did my heart love til now?…
