Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare about two young star crossed lovers. Romeo and Juliet is a play based around the idea of love and how no matter how you were raised you can’t help yourself when it comes to these situations. This play teaches us that fate cannot be changed or dodged, and that one thing does not only affect you, but everyone else in the community around you like how when Tybalt was killed, this brought Paris into this and Romeo and both the Capulets and the Montagues. The first thing Romeo says when he sees Juliet is, “What lady’s that which doth enrich the hand of yonder knight?”, he says as he has only just seen Juliet. Romeo then, continues on to say how he’s feeling “Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night.” After the party is over, Juliet subtly asks questions to the Nurse to try and find out who Romeo is “Go ask his name”, but when she does find out who Romeo is, she becomes very flustered “My only love sprung from my only hate!” As the play progresses, you can see how Romeo and Juliet being in love has changed their personalities, when Romeo first meets Juliet, his thinking is not practical at all “my life better ended by their hate than death prorogued”, Romeo doesn’t care if any of the Capulets find him. Juliet when she first meets Romeo, is very practical and stating the facts “It is too rash, too unadvis’d, too sudden, too like the lightning, which doth cease to be”, showing that she has some clear thoughts on how she want this done. This is relevant to today’s society as people fall in and out of love every day, they may handle the situation differently, but they might be in the same situation of their parents not approving or having to keep it a
