What many students fail to see in this case, how unjust it is to take the work of another individual and turn it in as if it were their own. This is morally and ethically wrong. Let’s say that if I was the one to submit an article and someone else turns in my work as their own taking credit for it, it is unfair since I was the only who struggled to write that article. I understand that plagiarism is unacceptable and has to excuse, there is always alternatives that can be taken that will help me succeed academically. It is true that today’s digital era makes this action easy to commit, since information is given within seconds. Due to the advancement in technology a student can also check before submitting in an assignment if their essay is properly cited and the originality it contains. In the article, “Policies for E-Learning With Suggestions to Prevent Plagiarism,” by Gattoufi, Béchir and Walter James, they state the importance of the online sites to check plagiarism, “Submitted files were scanned for plagiarism using Safe Assign tools, a plagiarism checker embedded to Blackboard.” Both authors had conducted a research in which it mentions the percentage of students who plagiarized and failed to comprehend any material, “Some students copied and pasted paragraphs without reading seriously the content, so we can consider, they did not acquire any knowledge,” (Bechir and James). The argument that both authors state is true, due to the fact that if a student commits such act; they won’t grow academically and won’t absorb any information.
