Is Non Heritable Traits Affect My Life

Decent Essays
My thesis is that genes passed from parent to offspring affect their lives in many important ways. Some dogs are bred especially for hunting. These dogs have to be endurant, fast, strong, and intelligent. Meanwhile a toy dog like a teacup dog has to have none of these traits. A toy dog would not be able to take the place of a hunting dog, their genes are just far to different from one another. my first selected subject would be non heritable traits. Non heritable traits affect my life in many ways. From what I like to eat to what I like to do. The way I choose to dress is a non heritable trait. My hobbies which are mostly video games are all non heritable. The way I live my life is all affected by non heritable traits.

Swedish researcher Carles Vilà questioned how dogs can have such a wide variety of phenotypes within their single species, “Imagine a great dane standing next to a chihuahua” He decided to conduct a study that was to look at where dogs had thought to evolve from - wolves. So he looked at the mitochondrial DNA of the wolves vs domesticated dogs in an attempt to understand the genetic consequences of 2 very different lifestyles. His hypothesis was that in instances where natural selection had been relaxed, for example the dogs would not face as many obstacles as wild dogs would compared to dogs that had been domesticated, and living under the care of humans, that certain mutations would accumulate faster. Less fit dogs were able to live longer and produce offspring, where as in the wild these dogs would not have survived therefore lost the chance to pass their DNA down into their offspring.…

I picked apart logos, pathos, and ethos and gave them their own separate sections of the paper, to cut down on repetition. Before I analyzed at all, though, I established a clear base to get on the same page as the reader.…

The argument that Burt and Simmons makes does make sense, but I believe heritability studies should continue. Just because to researchers believe a certain type of study should be dropped does not mean more heritability studies in the future will not be conducted. There is a great deal of studies since the beginning and not just in criminology but other areas of study that did not lead to success, but lead to a learning experience. These are building blocks to the foundation of future research. We learn from our mistakes, we learn our history in the hopes of not repeating those mistakes.…

DNA is our genetic code, it is permanent and unchangeable. Epigenetics are the mechanisms that influence DNA, it is the device that inhibits or increases our gene expression. Epigenetics can be influenced by many factors, for example nutrition and stress. Although the actual makeup of our genetic code isn’t changed by these factors, the extent to which the genes are expressed can be (Rettner, 2013). Epigeneticist Moshe Szyf highlighted the ways in which different behaviors can influence genetics in his TedTalk, How Early Life Experience is Written into DNA.…

The Holocaust was an eventful time in history. A lot of things happened that people do not even realize. The holocaust not only affected Jewish people, it also targeted homosexual, women and children. A topic I found interesting about the holocaust was the idea of hidden children. It has rarely been talked about how they hid the identities of Jewish children by given them fake papers and hid them in different places during the holocaust so they could survive.…

“Genetic Dilemmas and the Child’s Right to an Open Future,” by Dena Davis Thesis 1: Whether deafness is viewed as a disability, which narrows a child’s future options, or a culture, which narrows the child’s option to not be associated with that culture or participate fully in mainstream culture, purposefully having a child who is deaf is a moral harm to the child. Allowing an adult to make a decision for a child before they are born to place her in the Deaf culture or otherwise limit her future career options is morally wrong and is not a goal that should be assisted by genetic counsellors. Premise 1: If a deaf couple wishes to have a child that is also deaf the counselor has the right to reject their request because purposefully…

The Designer, The Mutt, and The Purebred Are designer breeds just pricy mutts with creative labels, or are they specifically bred dogs with scientific data to back up their design? According to Garry Garner, president of the American Canine Kennel Club, "With a mutt -- there is no documented background, whereas with designer dogs, we have pedigrees as parents. We know exactly what the mix is” (ABC News). Another debate is the health of mixed breeds and purebreds. Some believe purebreds are naturally unhealthy, while others believe mixed breeds have more health risks.…
