Is Meth The Cause Of Drug Abuse?

From an early age, we are taught not to do drugs. Drugs can harm us, drugs can make us do things we wouldn't normally do, and drugs can kill us. With this information people still do drugs, people still get addicted to illegal substances that can affect their brains and cost them their lives. With all the thousands of types of drugs what is truly the worst? Is it meth, heroin, or cocaine? Studies and statistics can show the answer to this question clearly the worst illegal drug is meth. While all illegal drugs are at least partially addictive, meth is the quickest and easiest drug to get addicted to. According to Nida for Teens, “Methamphetamine use can quickly lead to addiction”(Drug Facts). Nida for Teens also states a “repeated use” of heroin and cocaine lead to addiction. This means that meth is more addictive than cocaine or heroin by cause of the ability to become addicted to meth after the first use. The literal slogan for meth being, “Not Even Once” (What Is Meth, Effects of Meth & Facts About Methamphetamine) is an accurate account of the experience of many who became addicted to meth after just one use. As well as, the ease of addiction to meth there are other factors that don’t stop people from trying the drug and getting addicted. According to Addictionblog.org, “ Emergency department visits due to meth overdose have been up to 130,000 per year, out of which almost 15% were fatalities” (Meth Overdose: How Much Amount of Meth to OD?). This accounts to 19,500 deaths. Nida for teens says,“5,400 people died from a cocaine overdose” and “more than 10,000 people in the United States died from a heroin overdose” (drug Facts). Meth causes 9,500 more deaths that herion and more than three times the deaths that cocaine
