Simon selflessly helps others for no other reason except for wanting to. Jack's way, though it may seem selfish, is just his way of showing that he cares for the boys but wants to do it in his own way. In Lord of The Flies, a group of boys is stranded on a remote island form a microcosmic society that eventually plummets into disarray. Whether this outcome is the product of a biological process in their maturation, or rather an environment-provoked phenomenon, facilitated by their social contributions on the island, that is the question. In this novel, there are lengthy symbolic themes that mostly point to the inherent nature in all human beings. Despite the fact in The Lord of The Flies, the children gradually transform from being civilized to savage and ritualistic, what makes them change isn’t a social effect that the situation or the boys impose on each other, but rather a biological predisposition that is exposed after the degradation of the civilized functions that the boys have been reared on, otherwise known as “nature”. Nonetheless, the…

“Let us be grateful to the mirror for revealing to us our appearance only,” said Samuel Butler (a Victorian-era English author). This quote reveals that there is much more to a human being than his or her appearance and that humans should be thankful that they cannot see the horrors that are lurking within a person. However, in Lord of the Flies, author William Golding shows the reader, through many characters and objects, the terrors of humanity. One of the most important symbols that reveals the innate nature of evil and the cowardice of humans is the Lord of the Flies.…

This quote implies that even the best us have the ability to do great evil. Dropping questions such as, how much of your “good conduct” is dependant on someone watching you? Is evil innate within humans or is it an influence from society? This question lies as the base of the novel, Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding and has been continuously queried on throughout humanity. We hear headlines like: “A place where children beg to die” and “19-year-old claims police brutality by Warren PD.” This kind of cruel behavior is still in place, whether it’s on battlefields or school grounds. Bullying, war, racism, abuse- to this day, all these problems still occur, yet I still disagree that humans are born depraved, corrupt.…
