Imagine that a man is going to a friend’s birthday party, and on the day of the party he is lazy and does not want to go to the party, so he calls a friend saying that he is really sick and that he can't go. some people would say this is wrong because lying is unjustified but I believe lying is always justified no matter what the situation. one situation that shows that lying is acceptable, is when people lie to protect others. In the article “It's the truth: Americans conflicted about lying” by NBCNEWS, 64 year old Harold Smith states that it was worth the risk lying to his adult daughter about his kidney tumor. “why get her all traumatized?” he also says “I tried to protect her. it slowed down the anxiety. later, I told her what really happened”. this shows that lying is justified because he is lying to protect his …show more content…
If you’re on the way to the award ceremony, you say, ’You look fabulous. Cohen instructs. Anything else would be cruel. If you’re still in the hotel room, a suggestion of a different outfit might be appropriate.” this shows that lying is justified because if you told the truth right when she was going to get the award or going to the place of the award she would be super worried. Some people would say that lying is unjustified because lying affects people as whole. Once again in the article “rejecting all lies: Immanuel Kant” by sissela bok, shows that 1 lie can hurt all people as a whole, in Kant’s view, he states that “a lie, even if it does not wrong any particular individual, always harms mankind individually, for it vitiates the source of law. even worse, it harms the liar himself, be destroying his human dignity and making him more worthless even than an a small thing. this is wrong because if you never lie than people won't be able help others from getting worried or hurting your

It may be considered evil to leave someone in the dark of something that could be completely life changing because, it they may not take it very well (161). No one would consider being polite to be immoral. If a person cannot stand to be around someone and pretends to be that person’s friend when they are around, that would be considered deceit.…

Is it ok to lie in any situation, or is it just wrong to lie at all ? In four articles that I read, it states a couple of things, for example, they talk about lying and if it's bad, is lying sometimes good, and is lying good. I believe lying is only good sometimes and it should only be used in white lies. I think a good time to lie is when you protect someone. One scenario of this is the story of Ann Frank.this is a good example because they were protecting Ann and her family by saying that there was nothing upstairs.…

In an interview with Robin Roberts, Robert Feldman, someone who has researched the subject of lies and deception for twenty plus years, said “We do it because it’s easy and because we get away with it and because it helps us in life” (Firestone). The human mind often assists in lying by helping the liar believe that by not telling the truth they are protecting someone else or themselves (Firestone). People are able to put their minds at ease when lying by convincing themselves that it is not that bad and that they are not doing anything wrong (Anonymous). It is not uncommon for people to only share information that they deem “safe” to tell and not tell everything; that is still a lie. It is a lie of omission, which at times is the worst kind of lie (Firestone).…

Granted my opponents such as Kant believe that lying is never acceptable even in a life or death situation (article 2 paragraph 2), yet can be helpful in a life or death situation. In the justification chart it states, “jason lies to protect his dad from having a heart attack by lying and not saying his mother has cancer (justification chart #5). This means that jason only lied for the sake of his dad not having a heart attack so he only lied to save his dad. For instance, if jason would of lied, his dad would of had a heart attack and died so he only lied to protect his father. In addition blanton states, “we shouldn't manipulate the truth except for rare times- if you're hiding anne frank in your attic because her life is in danger.”…

If you lose how close you are to a person because you told the truth, then they don’t accept the real you, that or it was your fault you messed up. They can’t handle the truth, that’s what I took from Blanton’s interview. In conclusion, lying is bad and can ruin a relationship. People rely on others for help which starts from trust.…
