Granted, it is known that lying can make a relationship last shorter however, it can save it if the truth is never known. In the article, it states that Teresa Velin “told a friend she was busy. ‘I’m not always as busy as I appear to be… I don’t want to ruin a friendship over a broken movie date” (Article 1 paragraph 6), To put it in another way, Teresa Velin lied to her friend in order to not go to the movie theater and get dressed up and to save a friendship. One again notices how a friend isn’t always honest and plans it out to get out of something. Furthermore, “Maria’s best friend tried on a new dress… ‘I love it. What do you think?’... ‘It's nice,’ Maria said even though she thought it was awful” (Justification chart). This evidence highlights that Maria, to not hurt her friend’s feelings, lied saying the dress was pretty, when knowing it was a terrible choice. It seems to me that Maria followed along with the choice of style, even if she didn’t agree. In conclusion, lying comes in handy when you cannot go or don’t want to go anywhere, but also want to maintain a relationship.
Thus, in certain situations lying is justified like when lies protect the liar and are helpful in a life or death situation, yet one needs to use it wisely when a good lie is able to maintain a healthy relationship. As a member of society, it is our responsibility to minimize the usage of lies by others, so that lies are solely done when it is necessary like to protect someone from danger.
