Granted, my opponents such as Kant believe that lying is never justifiable, even in a life or death situation (Article 2 Paragraph 2). Yet most would say that lying can be excused when saving someone’s life, as once can see by this, Kant is an extremist when it comes to the opposition of lying. Lying is justified in a situation that could be “To protect someone from serious harm” as stated by Cohen (Article 1 paragraph 10). This evidence highlights this evidence highlights that in the rare occasion that one might be chased by a murderer and he or she asks where he went you could lie and say that he went in another direction, by doing so you could save someone from a fatality. This is highly important to consider to do so in an event where someone's life or something of high value is at stake. According to the ISPOS poll, “65 percent of those questioned said it was OK to lie to avoid hurting someone’s feeling...” (Article 1 paragraph 7). This is to show that lying is believed to be the solution to sparing feelings. One can see by this that lying is justifiable in to show sensitivity. By this one can see that lying is an important aspect to our lives that we should use, but not

I argue that lying is permissible in situations where lying is used for the greater good of others, which is supported by John Stewart Mill’s conception of Utilitarianism. According to Kant in the “Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals” it is not permissible to lie because he defines morality as not harming others, which lying does according to his “Metaphysics of Ethics.” Conversely, Utilitarianism is the theory that right actions maximize happiness, which could mean this happiness is acquired at another’s expense. At the core of this theory is the Greatest Happiness Principle. This principle states that one should act such that one’s actions produce the greatest happiness for the greatest number.…

If you ask most people do you think lying is acceptable, majority of them will not hesitate and tell you yes, and then give you multiple reasons on why lying is a bad thing. But if you actually sit down and think, everyone lies several times a day sometimes without even knowing it because the lie was so small and meaningless. But in other occasions people lie to protect things they care for and about they are also willing to accept the consequences behind their lies and actions. Some may even feel that lying at that point of time it was acceptable due to the situation they are put in. In the short story “Someone Ought to Tell Her…

As Youtuber Richard Williams, also known as Prince Ea, once mentioned, “Planet Earth is 4.5 billion years old while humankind is about 140 thousand years old. In a different perspective, if the Earth’s life span is condensed into 24 hours, then we have been here for three seconds.” Now think about all the lying you have done throughout your whole life, which would be three seconds. As you recall all of these moments, don’t you think we have been doing far too much lying during our short lives? This belief has been incorporated in the articles, “Brad Blanton: Honestly Tell the Truth,” by Barbara Ballinger and “Teens Do their Share of Lying,” by Loretta Ragsdell, which introduce and analyze the idea of lying.…

Many people who lie do it to protect another person or to save a person from getting offended (160). Many would argue that no one has the right to decide for someone else whether or not they should be denied the truth because they may get offended. It may be considered evil to leave someone in the dark of something that could be completely life changing because, it they may not take it very well (161). Is it ok to lie in any situation, or is it just wrong to lie at all ? In four articles that I read, it states a couple of things, for example, they talk about lying and if it's bad, is lying sometimes good, and is lying good. I believe lying is only good sometimes and it should only be used in white lies. I think a good time to lie is when you protect someone. One scenario of this is the story of Ann Frank.this is a good example because they were protecting Ann and her family by saying that there was nothing upstairs.…

I often tell white lies because I am trying to protect myself or someone else. Most people tell white lies to people they care about but I tell them to those I do not. If I care about someone, I will tell them their breath stinks or their hair is “not okay” so they can look their best and not be embarrassed. To others, I will easily say “those colors go well together” or “You smell nice.” When I tell white lies, they are reserved for those who do not know me because those I am close to know I will be candid.…

In discussions of deceitfulness, one controversial issue has been if it is ever right to lie. Both Anton Chekhov’s “The Lady with the Dog” and Stephen Carter’s “The Insufficiency of Honesty” argue that lying can be rationalized. On the other hand, some people argue that lying is never virtuous as it misleads others. However, I argue that, lying can be justified if it is not used for malicious intent, because it is often used selflessly to protect the feelings of others.…

In “The Ways We Lie” by Stephanie Ericsson she discusses and breaks down the activity of lying into different kinds of lies. Ericsson goes into great detail of about 10 of them, but there are many more. Some lies are for your peace of mind and maybe still bad for both parties, and some are for the better of someone else’s feelings. Ericsson believes that even if you feel you are perfect, nobody is and still tell lies no matter big or small, we do it and at times are unaware that it is considered a lie. Individuals nowadays get to a point where they are lying and don’t know whether to believe themselves or others.…
