Johnny is the real hero because he helps family, saves lives and cares about others feelings. One reason that Johnny is the real hero is because Johnny helps his family through the hard times. For example, one day Ponyboy and Johnny were at the park and out of nowhere, a bunch of Socs come up to them. Socs and Greasers have a lot of problems between them. The Socs are rich and stay mostly on the West Side and the Greasers are poorer than the Socs and they always stand up for each other. The Socs were just mad because Ponyboy and Johnny had been talking to Cherry and Marcia. They started to get physical. The Socs were drowning Ponyboy and Johnny couldn’t stand it. “You really killed him, huh Johnny… I had to. Hey were drowning you, Pony. They might have killed you, and they had a blade.”(pg 57) This shows that Johnny had killed a person to save Ponyboy. Ponyboy was going through a hard time. Bob, a Soc was drowning him. Johnny didn’t know what to do so, he just killed him. That’s why Johnny is the real hero. …show more content…
After stabbing Bob, Ponyboy and Johnny ran away. They went to Windrixville and hid in a church. One day the church they had been staying, had got on fire. There were many innocent kids in there. Johnny and Ponyboy had decided to go in the church and save them. “Johnny wasn’t behaving at all like his old self. He looked over his shoulder and saw that the door was blocked by flames, then pushed open the window and tossed the nearest kid. I caught one quick look at his face it was red marked from falling embers and sweat-streaked, but he grinned at me. He wasn’t scared either. This shows that there was a fire in the church and Johnny had went in there to protect the kids. The church was spread with fire, but Johnny wasn’t scared. He had saved many kids lives.
