As John Proctor purchased a piece of land from Rebecca Nurse, a wealthy man named Thomas Putnam begs to differ. Putnam states his ground, and argues with John Proctor that the land is his because it is said so is his Grandfather's will. Putnam also admits to Proctor that the fact stands that he never intended to give the piece of land away. John Proctor has a lack of impulse and instantaneously reacts towards Putnam, causing a dispute. “In your bounds! (Indicating Rebecca) I bought that tract from Goody Nurse’s husband five months ago.” (Proctor 181). From this quote, we can recognize that Proctor has a history of fighting for what he believes in.
