I spent the summer without much to accomplish. I was in the midst of the transition from middle school to high school, and I had no summer homework. For the first time in two years, I decided to not play football, and that definitely contributed to my uneventful summer. However, being internally-driven to accomplish something, I was thoroughly fed up with sitting around. I accompanied my younger brother to his middle school cross country practice. Though inquisitive as a child, he struggled greatly in school. Consequently, only one college accepted him. Grateful for the opportunity, he literally made himself fall in love with learning. Nights of tedious repetition and studying transformed him into an academic powerhouse. Suddenly, learning became his passion, and years down the line, I would become the recipient of that passion to learn, succeed, and constantly improve.
By the time I was old enough take Peterson’s psychology class, he had already been my coach for three years. Peterson believed in my ability and integrity when no one else did, and that fueled me to fight relentlessly. The thought of letting him down left me distraught. I knew he would love and support me unconditionally, but I wanted to make him proud. So I entered his classroom with a charismatic swing in my step, and a willingness to give it my all. All too quickly I would discover that my mind was in no way prepared for the rigor of the
