The culprit of failed learning today lies on the fact that “learners often do not take advantage of the resources they could use to improve and learn” due to “a poor engagement with the learning content” (Filsecker and Hickey 2). Because school is seen as irrelevant to most students, the general attitude is that of disdain. The general attitude of students toward gaming is becoming increasingly positive. Even the “jocks” of today are opening up to gaming, and that is a huge step for kids. Being a game of endless potential and harboring a simple and friendly atmosphere, Minecraft has sold nearly 107 million copies, making it the second most popular game in history (Callaghan par 1). Because children and adults alike love and embrace this game, Minecraft can rewrite the standard and make learning fun – permanently. Some stand opposed to the idea of educational gaming. Pound for pound, educational gaming is the least realized potential for educators today. Few want to take risks and grow this method of educating, and for good reason.
