Deflategate Or Cheating

Improved Essays
Is it science or cheating? That has been the big question for a lot of football fans for the previous four months. It only takes one word for football fans to either roll their eyes or start an argument. What is this I am talking about? Deflategate.
What is Deflategate? Deflategate is an American football controversy. A team is suspected of cheating by lowering the air pressure of the football, making it easier to grip. According to Gregory DiLisi et al, “Athletes and physicists have since agreed that using underinflated footballs gives several unfair advantages to the offensive team.” Why is it that one word sends football fans into some sort of frenzy? The main reason it sends everyone into a frenzy is because of the team that is suspected

The report given by Theodore V. Wells Jr., Brad S. Karp, Lorin L. Reisner states that “There was no deliberate attempt by the Patriots to introduce to the playing field a non-approved ball during the AFC Championship Game” (Wells). That statement alone makes a lot of people wonder if there was ever any cheating.
This debate has even caused younger generations to take action. One high school chemistry teacher and her students came up with a project to test if the footballs can naturally deflate. The main question asked in this project is “Could the underinflated footballs used by the New England Patriots have been caused by environmental conditions during the game?” (Megonigal). They tested what they knew about gases and how they react in several weather conditions. In the report given by Wells et all “Basic thermodynamics, including principles such as the Ideal Gas Law, the temperature, and pressure inside a football will drop when it is brought from a warmer environment into a colder environment and rise when brought back into warmer

The suspension is more than what Ray Rice received for domestic violence on his wife. His suspension was only two games. How could they give the New England Patriots quarterback a longer suspension for probably cheating when someone who was found guilty of domestic violence only be given a two game suspension? To me, there is not enough conclusive evidence to suspend Tom Brady and also make the New England Patriots give forfeit their first round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. The NFL should take more time thinking about punishments given. A domestic violence case is deserving of a harsher penalty than probably cheating. These professionals are role models for younger kids. With these punishments, they are saying that they would rather have someone beat a female than to probably cheat. Both of these are bad but with there not being conclusive evidence to prove the New England Patriots did cheat their penalties are

In my opinion, the Deflategate or Ballghazi, was a flawed investigation. Multiple investigations led to different results based on biased opinions. There appears to be too many variables based on individual assessments. The footballs are inflated by each team, no officials verify the correct pressure. The pressure of the ball changes causing a minor deflation based on a lower temperature.…

It is clear that the Brady and Jastremski are both aware about the issue and wanted to talk about it. It’s important to note that in the 20 years that Jastremski has worked for the Patriots, he had never met with Brady in the quarterback room. He also said that the meeting only lasted a few minutes and walked out a happy man because Brady had praised and thank him for the preparation of the footballs for the AFC Championship Game. He said they did not discuss anything relating to the deflation of game balls during the meeting. To evaluate the data collected on the day of the AFC Championship Game and test the likelihood that the Patriots did or did not tamper with the game balls, Ted Wells brought in a team from Exponent, one of the leading scientific and engineering consulting firms in the country, which included Dr. Daniel R. Marlow, who is a Physics professor at Princeton University and former Chairman of the Physics Department.…

Disgustingly enough, this elaborate scheme had monetary rewards at different levels. If a Saints defensive player hit his target hard enough or had his target “carted off” the field he could receive a reward of $1,000 or worse “knocked out” his opponent for a reward of $1,500. This scandal and its entirety effected the Saints franchise as a whole but was targeted at Head Coach Sean Payton, General Manager Mickey Loomis, Assistant Head Coach Joe Witt, and of course Defensive Coordinator Gregg…

Will the absurdity that is Deflate gate ever end? Not for a while, it appears. In the latest turn of events, U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman on Thursday overturned the league's four-game suspension of star New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, which the league imposed on Mr. Brady for his alleged involvement in a scheme to slightly deflate the footballs in the first half of last season's AFC Championship Game against the Indianapolis Colts. After eight months, millions of dollars and the people's court time have been taken up with the question of whether the team violated league rules by removing a tiny bit of air from the footballs, supposedly making them easier to grasp and throw. Even though the deflation was discovered at halftime,…

In the 1970s, he set a variety of rushing records and was one of the most recognizable and beloved sports figures on the planet.…

This is proof that the NFL was trying to reduce violence and injuries, but this still not does not seem to work for reducing them. People let their kids go out and play the sport while they are potentially risking serious head injury, like concussions, which is very concerning to the child's parents, because of all the news and facts they know about concussions. If the NFL, or the equipment makers for the football players, came together to work for good equipment that caused less injuries, then this would save money and damage for the football player. These injuries leave people wondering “Will concussions ever be prevented or reduced in percentage throughout the years of football”? Or “What are sports medical teams doing to prevent concussions or make helmets more concussion-proof”?…

Critics often argue that football is becoming more safe because of increased regulations that more firmly police players. However, that reasoning is absolutely not correct… Because there are continuous illegal and cheap hits. One study conducted by Sporting Goods Manufacturer's association found that there was an 11% decrease in football’s “core”, “Most parents get scared of what their kid will be once they get a concussion” (Maese p 1). Often that reason is correct, several blows to the head can cause many problems in your brain. The NFL have been changing the environment of the game to firmly police the game, They put rules on the game so you can’t hit high and dirty.…

Year by year head injuries are rising in the National Football League. With head injuries growing the tension around the concussion issue is growing. With growing tension more pressure is put on the NFL in means of player safety. The NFL should do more to protect players against concussions because players are constantly taking hits, helmets are not concussion proof, and players are returning to action too soon after suffering a concussion. To start off concussions are defined as a type of traumatic brain injury caused by a bump or blow, or jolt to the head or by a hit to the body that causes the head and brain to rapidly move back and forth.…
