It is important for conflicts to be solved through means other than violence, because violence causes harm. Clearly, it is not good to put others’ in harm. It is always better to just talk things out. Violence does not solve anything, in fact, it only creates more issues. Some of these issues include trust and forgiveness. If I was about to approach somebody to discuss a conflict we might be having and I planned to forgive that person that day, but then that person approached me and slapped my face, forgiveness would become a lot more difficult to do. By having this book begin with that scene, it shows the background that Wes, the author, is coming from. He was taught that it is not okay to hit others, especially girls. Whereas, the other

The reason that I said trust vs. mistrust is because of the neighborhoods that they lived in. Both of them happened to live in a neighborhood that was prone to crime. This probably caused to respond differently for certain situations. For example, if they were in school and someone gave a threat as sarcasm or a joke, the Weses probably took this seriously and could have tossed a throw at the face right then and there, because they would not have trust the people in their neighborhoods. The reason I said industry vs. inferiority played a role, was because both Weses went through a point in their lives when they struggled with school. Internally, they probably viewed themselves as a failure, therefore became inferior. Identity vs. role confusion may have also been a concern for them. For especially the other Wes, he was trying to have many roles by being a brother, son, student, and he was trying to be a part of different roles that would help him to better fit in with kids that he should not have been hanging
