At the beginning of the twentieth century homework was viewed as an exceptional practice that helped students learn through practice and repetition. In recent years parents and educators were concerned that homework is taking away from “social experience, outdoor recreation, and creative activities”(Homework). Homework and the stress that comes with the can cause extreme health issues. School stress can cause major headaches and migraines that can irritate student’s parents and teachers (MNHI). No one likes headaches. Headaches can be distracting in the school environment. The pupil cannot concentrate, which can lead to a decrease in the learning potential of the student. Also, the students can complain to the teachers and parents, which not only irritates the students, but also the parents and teachers. On the more mental side, many students have anxiety because of the stress that comes from trying to get all of their assignments done before the due date. Anxiety disorder is the number one most common illness in the US (Facts & Statistics). Anxiety is a great epidemic that is accuring in the US. Anxiety can cause students to be distracted in class, and not play attention in class, which can affect the student’s performance. Anxiety disorders, also, can have great effects on your health. People with panic disorder are more likely to have mitral valve prolapse, hypertension, peptic ulcer, diabetes, angina or thyroid disease, just to name a few. In fact, men who have anxiety disorders are also at greater risk for cardiac disorders, hypertension, gastrointestinal disorders, respiratory illness, asthma, and many other symptoms. Women with anxiety disorders are more likely to have a history of cardiac problems, hypertension, metabolic, gastrointestinal, dermatological, respiratory disorders and arthritis (How). Some of the side effects of anxiety in students can cause major health issues that can be detrimental to the students health in the present and in the long run. These health issues can lead to a disrupted school career and future.
