Summary: The Social Problem Of Homelessness

Research Paper - Homelessness Social Problems As a child, I was homeless when I was in the 5th grade. I lived in cars and shelters with my mother, who was an alcoholic and drug user. At that age, I knew things were not right and we should have a place to live. It wasn’t until I was older that I understood a little better. My mom would not give up drugs to keep a roof over our head. My passion for homeless people has always been very strong and I have always tried to volunteer and give back since I have walked in their shoes. My sister and I ate at homeless shelters in Cleveland, Ohio. We also counted on free summer breakfast and lunch programs. Homelessness is a government and community problem. Our government cannot handle this problem alone, they do not always know what is going and can’t track all homeless families. Communities should pull together and help each other. This can be accomplished by elected officials taking responsibility for neighborhoods and being engaged after the elections are over. Community schools can be more involved by reaching out to organizations once they are made aware of a homeless student or family.
