Like most sane humans you would want to protect your children, right? Protect them from household dangers, playground worries, anything that might cause a boo-boo to little Jimmy. But what about the things you can’t see, like all the bacteria and viruses that can make them sick. From the common cold to polio, you don’t want your child to contract some kind of disease or illness. Since you can’t see the viruses, the best way to protect against them would be to have a sort of invisible barrier, in this case a vaccine. However, did you know that around five percent of the children in the United States are unvaccinated? It doesn’t sound like a lot but five percent of approximately seventy four million …show more content…
While there are things in vaccines that can be harmful by themselves, note that this is without the other components of the vaccine and in larger amounts, the particular combination is completely harmless to humans. For example, there’s very small amounts of aluminum which is used to stimulate the body’s response to the vaccine, meaning that the vaccines effectiveness is increased. There’s also trace amounts of mercury to prevent contamination of vials with multiple doses. If the presence of mercury concerns you then you perhaps should reconsider your views on eating fish, specifically tuna, as there is much more mercury in the tuna than the vaccine. While mercury can be poisonous it only is in large quantities, much higher quantities than what is present in either the fish or vaccine. Another questionable ingredient used is formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is used to kill the bacteria so that it doesn’t fully infect someone. Almost all of the formaldehyde is removed long before the vaccine is given, and you probably don’t know that your body produces it as part of the metabolic, or digestive, process and in trace amounts from the food we eat, the water we drink, and cosmetics you wear. The main reason for the worry caused by these ingredients can be boiled down to lacking knowledge of chemistry and biology, and misconceptions about how things harm the body. The …show more content…
Yes, it is a myth, as there has been no connection found between autism and vaccines. The research that started this myth was done by Andrew Wakefield in 1998. His paper falsely stated that the MMR vaccine was the cause of autism in children, and parents looking for some explanation of why their son or daughter is the way they are just latched onto it. It’s been proven wrong for years but certain famous spokespeople and and the ever increasing amount of google degrees held by parents makes this hard to dispel for everyone. But even if it did cause autism, why would you let your child suffer from terrible diseases like polio or measles? Is having a child whose brain is wired the same as all the other “normal” kids more important than them not catching a preventable disease that would cause suffering and possibly death, all because you didn’t want an autistic child? Autism isn’t an easy thing to deal with and can be stressful, but personally I’d be a bit more stressed watching my child lay in a hospital bed, knowing that they will be in pain for that whole time, and knowing that depending on what they caught they could die or be crippled for life. If that 's not enough cause for concern, consider this. What does it mean for our children that we allow them the chance of death as a preference to them not being
