A second critic of Hamlet stated "[His] unreason is not madness because his intellect remains clear."(George Santayana) Hamlet was capable of saying things in a way that people couldn't understand, but yet was clearly understandable if people thought about what he said.
In result Hamlet wasn't insane, he was a sane man in disguise, This is what made him such a genius. He made people see him as a lunatic. This is why he was an inspiration. In act 2 scene 2 Hamlet called Polonius a "fishmonger" (Shakespeare, pg. 52, 174) and also said, "For the sun breed maggots in a dead dog, being a good kissing carrion-Have you a daughter?"...."Let her not walk i' the sun." (Shakespeare, pg 52, 181) After saying this Polonius thought Hamlet was going crazy
