Put yourself in Hamlets shoes, he is in an incredibly hard part of his life right now where he is expected to do so much. On top of that it doesn’t help that nothing is going his way. But that is exactly what Hamlet wants everyone to think. If everyone believes he has gone mad, his actions will not seem as suspicious because he is just “crazy”. The main reason for Hamlet acting this way, is to cover up his objective. No one will suspect that he is seeking revenge. “Though this be madness, yet there is method in’t.”(Act II, Scene II) means Hamlet and others are falling for his act. Even when Hamlet gets caught up in the story, he stays true to himself. His one and only motive is to avenge his father. Hearing that an acting troupe was coming to town soon, Hamlet put his mind to work in crafting out a play reenacting his father’s death in front of his uncle and mother. “O, that this too too sullied flesh would melt” (Act I, Scene II) Shows that Hamlet has moments of suicidal thoughts, but he’s still sane.
