Is Hamlet A Good Person

“We have many pocky corpses nowadays,” says the gravedigger to Hamlet while Hamlet is returning home (5.1.165). After being sent to England, Hamlet returns home to rid Denmark of evil. Hamlet’s uncle, Claudius, murders Hamlet’s father and plans on murdering Hamlet. When Hamlet becomes aware of the news, he began to puts on an “antic disposition.” Hamlet begins to lie to friends and family to baffle them into thinking Hamlet is only grieving. He also puts himself first in many situations. Many people believe that lying and putting yourself first means you are not a good person. However, despite the tough situation Hamlet is facing, Hamlet is a good person because he continually strives to do what is right. Morals and characteristics define men. Hamlet matures as a person, as well as learns what characteristics and morals he should have. Hamlet continually learns how to make better decisions. Hamlet refused to think of how his antic disposition would affect his family and friends. His mother is constantly worried, and Hamlet is so tightly wrapped in his emotions that his unwillingness to cooperate with her displays a false image; she does not love him. Hamlet’s mother attempts to prove her love multiple times. Comparing his mother to a “beast,” is not something a good person would do (1.2.150). He also does not allow Claudius a chance to prove that he does truly care for Hamlet. Hamlet has also rejects Ophelia’s affection. He has even misled her, or in today’s terminology, “lead her on.” After Hamlet stated “I did love you once,” Ophelia replied “Indeed, my lord, you made me believe so,” (3.1.116,117).
