In “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” which appeared as a cover article of the Atlantic in 2008, Nicholas Carr argues that the use of google and the web is making humans stupid. Carr talks about the fact that his concentration has drifted easily, and his reading skills have become a struggle due to the time he spends online. So many things can be searched and read upon from just one site. Most textbooks are not up to date, while google shares information that’s tagged with the most recent dates. From offering videos, images, news, maps, shopping and so much more. Essentially google is a great resource, even the smartest people in 2 the world use google, it provides a great deal of useful information. It’s more so an issue of just searching for the answers, rather than looking at the information as a whole.
Easy access, why make things in life complicated if they don’t have to be? The internet “becoming our map, our clock, our printing press and our typewriter, our calculator, and our telephone, and our radio and TV” (742) isn’t a bad thing unless you make it one. Busy days, sleepless nights, and study sessions become less of a hassle when there is access to the net within seconds. Google can only give information on what is searched, it’s not solely liable. Information can be given at the blink of an eye, rather than going through a textbook of 200 pages or more to find one certain thing. Google is no worse than the library if you’re not checking your resources or looking up the information needed as opposed to looking up silly
