Reading on the internet causes it to be harder to read longer lengths such as books because you are so used to reading fast on the internet and getting your information immediately. When I read books or longer texts I usually get distracted or bored easily because I have a hard time staying focused. I’m always on the internet and find out what I want to know really quickly so having to read longer lengths takes longer for me to find out information and I lose my concentration. It usually takes me a long time to finish books because I’m always getting distracted or bored and stop paying attention to what I’m reading. My grandparents are the opposite they can read for hours and they won’t get bored or distracted because most of the time they aren’t looking things up on the internet or using a lot of technology as much as I am so they are used to the old ways and aren’t effected by the internet as much as younger generations are. A lot of the time when I’m reading online I won’t actually read the whole thing I usually just skim through it and find out information because it’s faster and easier than reading the whole thing. Many people in school will look up questions on the internet just to find an answer to a question for a class and won’t really learn anything because they don’t understand why that’s the answer, but because it’s faster and easier and gives them the answer they don’t typically care if they’re actually learning. The internet is full of all different medias, so when I’m on certain sites I get distracted by ads or other things that interest me, if I’m writing a paper I often lose my place because a message or notification will pop up so I leave the paper and look at it.
