Is global warming man-made? There are a number of controversial arguments over climate change, some say it is real and some say it is not. Regardless of what you think, it is imperative that you educate yourself and others about this subject. Primarily, the evidence has shown that climate change is real and is happening right now during our time. Furthermore, what are the causes for these changes, and how will this affect us long term? Lastly, what are the alternatives to help alleviate the climate change? According to the article Climate Change Evidence: How Do We Know, it stated “Global sea level rose about 17 centimeters (6.7 inches) in the last century. The rate in the last decade, however, is nearly double that of the last century.” Due to the temperature rising, scientific evidence shows that the northern ice caps are melting and more than average rainfall has made the seas rise. It is also important to note that higher temperatures make water expand. “Based on the comparison of atmospheric samples contained in ice cores and more recent direct measurements, it provides evidence that atmospheric CO2 has increased since the Industrial Revolution” (Climate Change Evidence). In a study by Raynaud et al. it showed that the carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere for the past 650,000 years has never risen above 300 parts per million until now; we are at current levels of 400 parts per million of carbon dioxide (39).
