Is genetic testing and genetic modification a positive choice for society? Society is responsible for launching rules and guidelines for the use of genetic technology, and this is a job in which bioethicists play a major role. Genetic engineering has been around for many years now. The well-being of research subjects and patients must be protected before certain experiments or treatments are conducted. Our society has evolved in its understanding of life to the point that we are able to manipulate it on an important level through technology. With the advancement of technology, it is now a race to see how fast and when scientist can decode human genetic information. This information will then lead to scientist discovering the genetics and desirable characteristics to uncover our diverse relationships with one another. Through advanced technology, the step of selective breeding could be possible. With these technologies it may be possible to directly and dynamically manipulate the genetic code. The change of this code is the direct cause of change in the genetic product: people. When these people are born, are they even still considered people? When do the factors of ethics, religion, and morals come to play? The modification to the genetic code could turn these people into “robots” and perfectionist. It began with the selective breeding of animals, which traits and characteristics were more desirable. Should these experiments remain only on animals? What side effects and…
