Is Gaming A Sport

Gaming is a worldwide phenomenon now that keeps getting bigger and bigger every day on multiple consoles or computers. But now everyone is thinking is it going to be considered a sport. Well in some parts of the country and outside our country it is already considered one. To some people sports are supposed to be physically active and moving around daily during the sport. To others it is just standing still and golfing patiently. But gaming is a special one because you are either sitting in a chair using a controller or using a keyboard. If you look at a gamers reaction time compared to other sports the gamer will have one of the highest because while playing the game and learning it your reaction time increases and your wpm increases if using …show more content…
Sports are considered sports because they can be publicly watched all over the world well guess what gaming can be do they have huge conventions for this type of thing now, they even have world tournaments against people in Korea, Europe, Australia, and everywhere else basically. Sports are considered active things to do and people say gaming can’t do that but they are wrong because you have to stay fit to have an active mind overall. Most people don’t know that but that's how you stay focused in games. People keep on saying gaming is the cause of violence because of certain games but that's not the reason because there are a wide range of why people turn violent after games or what is actually going on in their life. Gaming is considered just a hobby because it takes up time but look at football you train for it just like you do in games to get better and better. Professional gaming is a real thing and you can actually go pro and make a lot of money. You can live off of just streaming for people or going pro. There are those few who just stay at home playing nonstop all day every day. To give some examples of a few people who stream and also stay active are Dyrus, Pokimane, Nightblue3, 1cePrime,and Gam3K3y. These are just a few of the ones that I know personally that go out and lift weights and run. Fitness and gaming can coexist but you have to change yourself mentally. The gamer has to stop eating snacks completely because every time your mind is focused on a game your brain thinks that it hasn’t eaten at all so fifty percent of the time you’ll twice as much than you usually do. If a gamer doesn’t exercise you do get quite a bit of shoulder pains and wrist issues. For example if your hands aren’t rested at a certain angle with your elbows, your muscles get strained and you do feel it. Sometimes it will even start to hurt so bad you have to stop playing. This is for pc gaming by the way. If you nonstop play and lose track of time you actually have a higher risk of carpal tunnel syndrome and other serious issues. Once you hurt either of your hands or wrists no more gaming until one is healed or both. If gamers feel pains in wrists or hands there are a few stretches that they can do. Do a full arm stretch, Stick one arm out with elbows straight and make a thumbs up with your thumb and roll it around five times for each

The definition of a sport is a competitive score within two teams, or individual that causes physical stress. Golf may be challenging, and competitive, but golf does not have physical exertion, and not everything competitive is a sport. If everything with a competitive score was a sport than all most every game would be a sport, and then there would be no point to playing a sport. Golf has a low amount of activity, and everyone can play it.…

Agreed with by some, and seen in the New York Time’s article on the issue “activities like bridge and chess are not sports because they lack the required element of physical activity”. (Mather 2) But, what exactly constitutes as physical activity? Such a thing can seem arbitrary because fitness does vary from person to person and sport to sport based on required length of activity, skill set, and personnel’’. For example: On average an NFL football game has 11 minutes of live action, and that live action takes place in small bursts.…

Who knows what qualities something must have to be called a sport? Do we have a list of clearly defined points that are used to judge an activity to know if it is or isn’t a sport? Well I bring this up due to the controversial topic of “Esports aren’t really a sport” and how I disagree with this popular viewpoint. Esports have many traits that are found in other socially accepted sport such as football when a large group is required to work in a coordinated fashion under ample amounts of stress in short periods of time. This is only one of many similarities that Esports shares with other sports that will be discussed.…
