BALL IS LIFE

Since I was a young boy I have always played sports. My first sport I played was

soccer; I have played every sport basketball baseball, football and basketball. Out of

every sport I played basketball and football was my best sports. I started playing football

when I was 7 years old. As I got older I started to become a real good basketball player.

In the 8th grade I played varsity for a privet school. I averaged 16 points per game so

now I knew that basketball was something I could dominate. Even though I was still

dominating football, that high school experience at a young age got my attention.

Going into the night grade I transferred to Nansemond River in Suffolk VA. They

were a pretty good team coming into the

We lost in a four overtime game

to our rivals that week that Saturdays practice everybody was sluggish from the long

week, he was running ups to death squeezing all he could out of us. We started to

scrimmage and somebody let me score on them and I talked a little trash to my

defender he blows the whistle and stated to dig into me with insults. After that day we

never could see eye to eye know how he really felt about me now! I still lead the team in

scoring, checked the best player from the other team and lead the team in rebounds

that didn’t matter to him. At the end of the season we were 16- 6 didn’t even make it out

of the conference. I accomplished one my goal of the season made first team all-district

That summer I played AAU with players from our rival school and they had just

won the state championship. Being that my coach and I didn’t see eye to eye, I didn’t

feel that he could get me to the next level I transferred to the school of the defending

state champion Kings Fork High. I was happy with my decision because I was going to

be playing with my friends and also the best team in the state. We was the talk of

Somewhere in the middle of the season I started to catch fire becoming a major part of

our success. Colleges were interested in me but I didn’t know anything about SATs or

what I needed to do to apply for college. We ended that season losing again in states in

the semifinals finishing the season with a 21-3 record.

It was the end of the season and I had offers from division one and division two

schools. My only problem I didn’t take the SAT or the ACT had a good GPA but

because of me being so young I just didn’t know how to get to the next level, college.

During the college search they were informing me that I would have to come and sit out

a year before I could play. So I chose to go to a junior college for two years and then

transfer to a four year college. Chesapeake College on the eastern shore of Maryland

was my school chose. I did a year of school there played basketball was the top scorer

on the team on the number two team in the region that year. Due to lack of financial

support and lack of knowledge on how to go about getting scholarships and loans I left

school. I had been out of school for two years until now starting this year at

Therefore, this was a team of small freshmen and sophomores playing against mostly juniors and seniors at the varsity level in one of the most talented high school conferences in the state. We finished the season 1-15, most of which were pretty tough losses but we worked hard and left it all on the field every game and that in the end is all that matters. The most prevalent memory was after the last game all the players were pretty upset about how it went but our coach ended our last huddle with, “We came into this season knowing it would be challenging and we worked hard from start to finish and I think we ended this season better than we started, which means that next year is gonna be a pretty good…

Skip ahead a few years to my college life and picture this UCLA, I used my talents there and made the best of it playing in sports like Track,Basketball and Football. I thought nothing could go wrong until my mother Mallie was having some troubles with her life at home despite UCLA offering me financial help if I stayed I still went to my Mother's aid. Soon after with the war going on I was drafted into the military and after a few months of dealing with the racism there and the bad people I asked for a discharge, I was granted my request but before I left Fort Riley, Kansas one of my fellow soldiers got word of an opening with the Kansas City Monarchs and of course I took it so with that said it was time to take my athletic talents to Kansas City. The team wasn't as good as the stories said but that was reasonable considering with the war most of the players were with the armed forces, but there was no other way to start my career at the time than with the negro league pennant races underway. We ended up winning five of six games with my help things were looking good…

While growing up, sports have always been a big part of my life. At the age of only six years old, my parents first signed me up for coach pitch softball. Little did they know that I was going to fall in love with the game and that they were going to have to spend countless hours at softball fields during the spring each year watching me play. Being so young when I first started playing, winning and losing did not matter at all. As long as I got to throw, hit, and catch the ball, I was happy.…

After completing six and a half innings, we head into the bottom of the final inning as the Aquinas Blugolds are ahead of Lake Country Lutheran 4-2. As a young child around the age of 5, I started playing baseball, and just like almost every little boy or girl, I always had that dream about making the game-winning shot in basketball or making that diving catch to win the state championship in baseball. My dream was almost fulfilled on June 18th, 2015. The season started in March and went all the way until June. At the beginning of the season, I wasn’t sure how much playing time…

What I was looking forward to doing my senior year, was leading my team as a senior to the best we could be. I was working harder than I ever had all winter long leading up to this. I had one goal that I did not see happen any of my four years there, which was getting to the state championship. There were a lot of things that had to go right for this to happen. The team had to be good, they had to work hard every day, they had to win districts, they had to win regional’s, and the most importantly the team had to get along great they have to be a family.…

I was never a sporty kid. For the majority of my childhood, my hobbies have included reading, playing video games, and other generic nerd activities. If you had asked me if I wanted to play a sport, I would have laughed at the prospect, so I surprised even myself when I answered yes to my mother’s inquiry about joining my school’s new flag football team. I worried about it for the weeks leading up to the first practice, but eventually I decided “Why not? It may end up being fun.”…

For some students, choosing to attend college after high school is an easy decision. Some are expected by their families to continue into higher education post high school graduation. I know a few people that are so motivated to attend college that they already know for sure what they are going to major in before they were even freshmen in high school. For me, I was not falling into that category. College was something I did not consider throughout my time in high school.…

The first time I learned basketball was when I am at the 6th grade when my physical education teacher registered me in a basketball summer camp. I used to be a shy and quiet girl but since joining the summer camp I started to socialize and have friends. After two months of learning basketball, I began to like it. Then, I started playing basketball in high school as part of my school’s team and I’ve been playing ever since. It started out as just an activity, and then became a hobby that’s something fun to do but later on, I found that I really like basketball.…
