The usage of euthanasia grants the patient the knowledge to know when they are going to die, it also enables them to live the rest of their life on earth to the fullest. Instead of spending their last couple weeks or days of their life in a hospital bed suffering, they could be out enjoying themselves to the best of their ability with the people they are close to. Euthanasia makes it so that patients who are terminally ill can die without suffering through extreme pain and with the support of their family around them in their final moments, “The word ‘euthanasia’ had meant providing pain relief to dying patients” (Weikart 1). Dying is not an easy process to go through, and no one wants to know that the end of their life will be painful. The practice of euthanasia grants the opportunity for a patient to die with a sense of dignity because it is their choice to die at that time, rather than feeling completely defeated by their disease (Behuniak). In some places, it is already legalized, “Three states--Oregon, Washington, and Vermont--have used straightforwardly democratic means to legalize the practice formerly known as ‘physician-assisted suicide’ but now termed ‘aid-in-dying’” (Latham 1). By these states legalizing euthanasia, it is setting an example and leading the way for other states within The United States. It would also take a lot of stress and responsibility off doctors to know that they can legally assist someone in suicide to relieve their agonizing pain without getting in legal trouble. Euthanasia of humans is the same thing it is for animals; the only difference is that they are making the decision for themselves, and not their pets. Animals, more specifically pets are put to sleep when the pain is unbearable or their life is not worth living anymore because it cannot be enjoyed. Animals are not to suffer through the rest of their life, so why should humans have to? With good
