Many people believe that euthanasia is the same as murder because in both scenarios an individual is passing away. However, euthanasia and murder, although similar in some ways, are two different concepts. The intentions behind murder and euthanasia are key in differentiating the two and as a result many do not see them as the same. The intention behind murder is not the victim’s good. In addition, the victim does not consent to murder. However, the intention behind euthanasia is for the patient’s own good and the patient is the one who chooses death over living. Murder is to kill someone against his or her will because of hate, anger toward the victim or because the death of the victim is beneficial for personal reasons. …show more content…
The intention behind euthanasia is the patient’s own good. There are many patients who die after suffering for a long time from an illness which modern science has no cure for. These patients do not feel like any other human being, as they have lost something that made them a whole as a human. They have lost the whole of their humanity and their dignity. This is not true for a couple reasons. First, the life span of terminally ill people and/or people in an intolerable amount of pain is short, thus the patient might die in agony and pain before any medical discoveries occur. Second, if the cure is found, it takes years for it to pass the animal trial stage, and after that it will take years to pass the human trial stage and then become available to public. This process is so long that many patients die in the process. Third, when a doctor preforms euthanasia on a patient, the doctor takes consent from the patient, and tries to help the patient. Many people take their time, do their bucket list, say goodbye to love ones and die with dignity and peace with their loved ones around
