I can say I have quite a variety of various friends with different opinions on drugs and drug usage, ranging from different ages. Throughout high school, I learned that each generation views drugs differently. Some drugs were more acceptable to use than others. When I was a freshman in high school, afterschool I would see the seniors smoke their cigarettes while waiting for the bus to come. A large portion of the seniors seemed to be fans of tobacco and, of course, alcohol when I saw them at parties. Alcohol has always seemed to be a societal favorite out of all of the drugs, especially amongst high school students. But, when I was a senior only a handful of my graduating class smoked cigarettes. An overwhelming portion of us smoked marijuana. I also noticed the freshman, at the time, were also using marijuana but they consumed edibles. I have found close minded people tend to be the worst at giving advice on drugs. Not because of their stance, but because of the way they go about explaining why not to use a drug. “It’s bad” does not cut it when trying to get your point across. There is usually no elaboration on what is specifically negative about doing a drug. My own experiences combined with my parents and friend’s advice influenced my attitude about psychoactive substances the most. As I was younger I had a fear of drugs built up in me because of ignorant closed minded advice I received.
