As Helen Keller once said, “Keep your face to the sunshine and you will not see a shadow.” This can also mean that the most effective way of getting through a crisis is to have a positive outlook, and not to focus on the negatives. In Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl — a series of journal entries that Anne Frank wrote while she and her family were hiding from the Nazi regime — Anne attempts to have a positive attitude no matter what the circumstances. She fought for her own life and for her loved ones’ lives, and her mental strength is one reason why she made it as long as she did. If she hadn’t looked on the bright side, despite her bleak situation, she would've never had the faith or will to survive.…

Some people may say no, some may say yes. To me, I see courage as something everyone has the potential to have. You don’t need to be a superhero to demonstrate courage. Courage is the strength you have when you’re faced with pain, danger, and grief. In The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Holocaust, and The Merchant of Venice, some events took place where people stepped up and were courageous.…

She documents her frustrations and her process of maturing. She works at holding her temper, controlling her argumentative ways, being less judgmental, acting kinder to the other occupants, and thinking more positively. At times she succeeds, and other times she considers herself a failure. Anne Frank’s growth is demonstrated through the eloquence of her writings that become profound musings with tinges of bitter irony. Her writing provides a “universalizing of her experience of persecution to such a degree that it applies to all kinds of injustices in the world” (Bos).…

Courage Paper The way I look at the definition of courage is quite simple for me. Being courageous means doing something without a direct benefit to yourself, the act of doing something while knowingly putting yourself in some form of danger of some sort. This means, the higher the chances of danger and the higher the risks, the more courage it requires. This is especially true if there is no direct reward for the person being courageous. The value of courage lies not in the act itself, but the intentions and motivations behind it.…

The first thing usually thought of when one thinks of courage is the act of being brave in life-threatening situations. But after studying the virtue and learning more about being virtuous, I have found that it is the virtue of deciding between the two vices of cowardice and recklessness. Courage is more than simply deciding to act carelessly, it is the ability to respond to fear. It means being able to do what is right and virtuous, even if it is difficult to do. Courage can be present in many different forms.…
