This association dictates that they do not excuse the use of physical punishment of children, even before the turn of the century. According to the American Psychological Association, “Therefore, be it resolved that the American Psychological Association opposes the use of corporal punishment in schools, juvenile facilities, child care nurseries, and all other institutions, public or private, where children are cared for or educated” (Conger, 1975). The APA believes that, similar to most of the groups that is in opposition of corporal punishment, children will imitate adults, and the use of punishment will likely train them to use physical violence rather than rational reasoning in aspects of their lives, especially when they have children. This organization is known for psychological knowledge and has researched the cerebral actions children make under this type of stress, and they state that it can mentally instill hostility and rage (Conger, 1975).
