Is College Still Worth It Essay

When graduating high school, teenagers are faced with the decision to go to college or not, or in other words, accept a hefty amount of debt or not. Some may decide to go to a University, a technical school, armed services, or step out into the workforce immediately. No matter what the student decides, each decision comes with its pros and cons. Many Americans see going to college as the best bet to a successful life. But, do these Americans take into consideration some of the world’s greatest innovators, such as Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates, who were college dropouts. Zuckerberg and Gates are a one in a million chance of choosing not to go to college and being as successful as they are. After graduation, many students are going after jobs that will pay the bills, not ones they are qualified for under their major. Reasoning like this makes it seem like they should not have gone to college in the first place if they were just going to chase after any job, and not ones related to what they studied. The author also sees no reason to not go to college because of the rising use of the Internet. It is believed that in college, life long bonds and work related connections are made, as well as the experience helps students grow. The author believes that because of the Internet, these connections can be made just as easily. He sees that the Internet has created a global community like no other. There are many more pros for choosing not to go to college, one of which is the fact that if one does not, they have four years to work and get ahead on the work ladder.
