Recently someone asked me ‘why do you want a college degree’ the first thing that came to my mind was to get a good job. I guess the society has wired that into our brains. Which made me thinking is the purpose of college just getting a well-paid job? Or is there a broader perspective?
It is very important to get good education, but it is just as important to learn about yourself and tendencies. Today education has lost its importance. More emphasis is placed on grades and GPA than self-growth. While some people argue that college is a right not a choice and that college should be accessible to all, I want to argue that the purpose of college is to train people in a very focused and specific way so that they can excel at the workplace.

This course of action is taken up by many a vocational course pass out students. Thus, such courses promote entrepreneurship, which is a very good thing for the economy today, considering that the recession has left many without jobs. Vocational courses increase the number of small businesses, which further increase employment, thus reducing the stress on the government to provide jobs for the unemployed.
The drawback of such a concentrated education provided by most colleges is the limited flexibility it provides. If a student starts in an auto mechanic program and realize halfway through that they want to go into business, the time and money they have initially spent largely goes to waste. A student who starts at a four-year college can take general requirements early, while exploring options to select a degree program. Plus, a career-focused bachelor 's degree still includes an array of classes and experiences which prepares students better for diverse career options.
Furthermore, everyone has the opportunity to get a college degree. Graduates now have to compete for jobs even after years of studying. The only difference is that all the people looking for a job have degrees. The universities raise expectations which are difficult for the government to
