Alyssa Roenigk, a senior writer for ESPN, presented an argumentative article, “Sorry, Cheerleading is not a Sport,” which opened a pivotal argument on cheerleading being classified as a sport. Roenigk states that all cheerleaders are athletes, but cheerleading should not be considered a sport. Why is this? Roenigk claims that sports teams are made to compete, to go against another team to win, not to entertain the crowd. The girls in cheerleading have practice regularly and they practice their routines and stunts at every practice to make it better. Just like any other sports cheerleaders have to be physically able to do all of the routines otherwise they won’t make the cut. “Not only is it obviously athletic to the eyes, but cheerleading also fits the literal definition.” There is so much information that backs up cheerleading as a sport like: they need to train and workout, there is competitions, the girls have to attend practices, and the whole point of cheerleading is to execute the routine better than the other teams. I think that this idea is one of the strongest reason cheerleading should be a sport though there is many other reasons cheerleading should be included as a…
