Is Certainty Necessary For Knowledge Essay

Is certainty necessary for knowledge? To really answer this question, we have to define what knowledge really is. Then in turn, we have to define what certainty really is. Truth also should be defined in order to help better understand the question. Once all three of these terms are defined then the main question can be dealt with. Truth should be dealt with first since it is the underlying aspect of the question. Some people could consider certainty truth. However, I do not feel as if certainty is truth. I think that truth is the final step in the grand scheme of what is real. I think that truth could be best defined as an absolute. Once something is deemed truthful then that is it. I am not saying that anything is truthful. I am just defining truth as such.
What is knowledge? I define knowledge as something that you are aware of. Knowledge in my terms does not have to be truthful or factual; there is no relevance factor on what knowledge can be either. Knowledge in my terms can just be anything as long as you are aware of it. So for

Is certainty necessary for knowledge? I think that certainty is required for knowledge. You have to be certain about the existence of an idea before you can know about it and have knowledge. So if I were to be knowledgeable about a subject I would have to be certain the subject existed and I would have to be certain that the ideas and constructs in the subject existed so that I could know them. This is all in no regard to whether or not the subject, or what’s in the subject, is true. So for example, prior to Star Wars Episode 7, all books and comics were cannon to the story meaning they were related. When Episode 7 came out all of those books were no longer cannon meaning they had no relation to the Star Wars universe. I still have the knowledge of the books and extended universe even though it is no longer accepted as part of Star

Coursework Part B What, according to Socrates, does the example of the slave boy in ‘Meno’ tell us about knowledge? What do you think that it shows? The example of the slave boy serves to demonstrate Socrates’s infamous claim that ‘all learning is recollection’. On the other hand, Bertrand Russell, a British author and philosopher believes that people should be doubtful and not so dogmatic in their ideologies. Both scholars make good points about the relationship between doubt, certainty and success, however it is a mix of both these philosophies that will deliver the most success in an individual's life.
