Is certainty necessary for knowledge? I think that certainty is required for knowledge. You have to be certain about the existence of an idea before you can know about it and have knowledge. So if I were to be knowledgeable about a subject I would have to be certain the subject existed and I would have to be certain that the ideas and constructs in the subject existed so that I could know them. This is all in no regard to whether or not the subject, or what’s in the subject, is true. So for example, prior to Star Wars Episode 7, all books and comics were cannon to the story meaning they were related. When Episode 7 came out all of those books were no longer cannon meaning they had no relation to the Star Wars universe. I still have the knowledge of the books and extended universe even though it is no longer accepted as part of Star
