Is Cenartech At Low, Moderate, Or High Risk Of A Security Problem?

Cenartech has invested a significant amount in it’s information technology infrastructure and I would rank it moderate in risk of security problems. Its overall company network is well separated with three networks (Whitman & Mattord, 2011). The first is a wireless guest network, the second is a financial network ,without any wireless access and the third is a production network (for employees and other functions) with wireless access (Whitman & Mattord, 2011). All networks are aggressively filtered and, moreover, firewalled from the financial network (Whitman & Mattord, 2011). Furthermore, all approved computers on these networks require individual usernames and passwords (Whitman & Mattord, 2011) . Lastly, all the approved computers have antivirus installed and all email is pre-filtered via an open source email package (Whitman & Mattord, 2011). But even the best hardware cannot guarantee security if it is not correctly configured and managed.
The security would have been ranked much higher if the IT department had not been basically leaderless for over two years (Whitman & Mattord, 2011), which is a long time in the IT world. The new IT department head appears quite sharp and eager, but he has never managed…
