Essay On American Stereotypes

Everyone knows at least one stereotype. Whether it is that all Asians are smart, or that African Americans love Kentucky Fried Chicken, there are plenty out there that can be heard. The most popular is the American stereotype. We are the blondes, the rednecks, and the fat people. The list could go beyond that, but we’ll be narrow minded for now. Broad comes later. Anyway, other countries see our habits and judge us accordingly. A majority of the time; they are absolutely right. We are pretty dumb, absent minded, and a lot of us are fat. We really have no excuses. Australia is literally a bunch of beautiful people, and that’s because they eat healthy and exercise. Americans do that, but maybe only thirty percent. But what if, not that I’m implying anything, you wanted to be American. A true …show more content…
You thought the other two were simple? I laugh at your ignorance. America is the epitome of laziness, of course there is going to be an easy option. All this route asks of you is to be a completely oblivious moron, ignorant to anything going on around you. All those protesters, who cares? Another outrage over racism, they will calm down later. Is there something I could be doing right now to cure cancer, stop world hunger, and start world peace? No, I’ll just shut down the government and watch everyone squeal for a while while I debate about whether or not I am wearing a diaper. Is that the only way to be childish? Of course not! You can do the exact opposite and become a fickle minded person. All you have to do is follow the latest trends and go with the flow. You never make a name for yourself, sure, but the ride is pretty fun right? It is pretty easy to recognise that if you do choose the childish route, you can’t come back anytime soon. You’re going to have to get your maturity back before you can. But in the meantime, you can enjoy a life of bliss. At least until the responsibilities come to bite

It was at seven year old when my father left my mother and I to find work in the United States. He proceeded to work day and night for the next five years until he was able to bring our family together again. The video "i’m latino, but i’m not…" raised my awareness about several stereotypes about Mexicans. Throughout my experiences I have learned, stereotypes can come from the deepest, darkest most ignorant parts of people, so I simply ignore them.…

While media’s main purpose is to merely inform the public, it often ends up affecting public opinion. This is the case with immigration and religion. When religious immigrants are portrayed in media as a certain way, society often creates prejudices and stereotypes. These stereotypes—whether they seem positive or negative—will have an overall negative impact on the lives of the immigrant and religious groups involved. When media portrays immigrants with differences from the majority of the public, a division is formed as “desirable” versus “undesirable” immigrant groups and this further reinforces stereotyping, especially against “undesirable” immigrants .…

Several days have passed when we were assigned reflect about cultural stereotypes in this subject. Subsequently, I started contemplating on my personal experiences related to numerous stereotypes in the culture where I belong. Before I start to reflect on those experiences, I felt compelled to start with defining culture and stereotype, and providing several stories on how I experienced being stereotyped as a Filipino particularly in cyberspace. “Culture is the complex whole which includes knowledge, beliefs, arts, laws, morals, custom, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of the society” (Tylor, 1871).…
