Many people considered Atticus to be one of the greatest heroes in American Literature. Atticus demonstrated characteristics to be a hero. Atticus showed that he is caring and courageous which made him a hero in their eyes. Qualities that make a hero include admiration, faith, and putting other before you. These characteristics meet the definition of Atticus. Atticus was very caring and a gentleman in this story. One example was when Atticus compliments Mrs. Dubose. “Good evening, Mrs. Dubose! You look like a picture this evening” (Lee 100). Although Scout and Jem had disputes with Mrs. Dubose Atticus doesn’t hold it against her.
