Is Animal Testing Justifiable

Sometimes, sacrifices are necessary for the greater good. Specifically, in the scientific field, experiments must be conducted to verify whether drugs actually work. To do so scientists often use animal such as rats and monkey, but with the recent evidence of animals having certain cognitive abilities. This use of animals raises serious ethical issues with animal rights activist strongly fighting against the use of animal testing. Therefore, is animal testing still justifiable?
